Dr. Galea was charged with five felonies in a U.S. Court last year — including smuggling human growth hormones across the boarder and providing performance-enhancing drugs to professional athletes. He hasn’t entered a plea in the case, and he is remains under investigation in Canada.
The symposium speakers will also include Joseph Purita, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Boca Raton (Fla.) Orthopedic Group, who is an advocate for HGH use and used PRP during a rotator cuff repair surgery that returned Yankees pitcher Bartolo Colon to play. Dr. Purita is currently under investigation by Major League Baseball for performing the procedure with HGH.
