Dr. Sekhon, an orthopedic surgeon who practices at New York City-based Mount Sinai, called the procedure “meniscal preservation” surgery. The procedure involves stitching tears together and compressing the tissue in order to improve the chances of long-term healing.
The best candidates for meniscal preservation surgery do not have arthritis, have healthy knees besides the tear and are committed to intense rehabilitation, according to the report.
