66.9% of Medicare-certified multi-specialty ASCs offer outpatient orthopedic surgery

Orthopedic single-specialty ambulatory surgery centers comprise 4.3 percent of Medicare-certified ASCs, according to CMS data reported by the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.

Here is the breakdown of Medicare-certified ASCs by single-specialty ASC type:

  • Ophthalmology: 26.4 percent
  • Other: 22.3 percent
  • Endoscopy: 22.2 percent
  • Pain: 9.7 percent
  • Plastic surgery: 6.7 percent
  • Podiatry: 4.8 percent
  • Orthopedic: 4.3 percent
  • Obstetrics/gynecology: 1.3 percent
  • Dental: 1.2 percent
  • Otolaryngology: 1.1 percent

Among multi-specialty Medicare-certified ASCs, 66.9 percent offer orthopedic procedures, the most of any specialty.
