Dr. Arthur Pappas Receives 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award From Massachusetts Medical Society

Arthur M. Pappas, MD, chair emeritus of the Department of Orthopedics and Physical Rehabilitation at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worchester, Mass., recently received the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Massachusetts Medical Society for his contributions to medicine, according to a report from The Daily Auburn.

Dr. Pappas also serves as vice president for affiliate relations for the hospital and a professor of orthopedic surgery at UMass Medical School. He previously served as an assistant professor in orthopedics at Harvard Medical School, chief of orthopedics at Fallon Clinic and as the medical director for the Boston Red Sox for nearly three decades.

During his career, he has also been active in community service as a member of the Board of Overseers of the Jimmy Fund of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, president of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation and president of the Massachusetts Hospital School for Handicapped Children.

Dr. Pappas earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester (N.Y.) School of Medicine.
