Colorado hospital installs TKR computer navigation system: 3 notes

Alamosa, Colo.-based San Luis Valley Health System added computer navigation developer OrthoAlign’s system to assist in total knee replacement surgery, according to Alamosa News.

Here are three things to know:

1. Designed to ensure accuracy and alignment, OrthoAlign’s technology features micro-sensors to provide real-time data during knee replacement surgery.

2. “This technology validates my skills [and] keeps the surgery focused…It is like having another professional assistant with every surgery,” said Jason Defee, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at San Luis Valley.

3. The health system will participate in a volunteer study on the benefits of using computer navigation assistance during total knee replacement surgery.
