Virginia orthopedic, sports medicine surgeon wins 5 medals for swimming: 4 notes

Salem, Va.-based LewisGale Regional Health System orthopedic surgeon James Farmer, MD, won five medals for swimming races at the Commonwealth Games at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., according to WDBJ Channel 7 News.

Here are four notes:

1. Dr. Farmer is a sports medicine specialist at LewisGale Physicians – Virginia Orthopaedics in Salem.

2. His additional expertise includes minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle as well as partial and total knee replacements.

3. Dr. Farmer swims competitively in U.S. Masters Swimming events.

4. Swimming helps to make it easier for him to relate to and help his sports medicine patients, Dr. Farmer told WDBJ News.
