Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. James Mok of U Chicago Medicine

James Mok, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and associate professor at University of Chicago Medicine.

He received his medical degree from New York City-based Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and underwent fellowship training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Mok served as a major in the U.S. Army, where he cared for elite special operations units. He also deployed as the orthopedic surgeon for a combat support hospital in Iraq. Dr. Mok received several military awards for his service, including the Meritorious Service Medal.

His research has been published in a variety of scientific journals. Dr. Mok is a member of the North American Spine Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Scoliosis Research Society, among other professional organizations.
