UC Davis, UC Health to build $40M student-athlete performance center — 5 insights

UC Davis and Oakland-based UC Health entered into a partnership to build a $40 million student-athlete performance center on the UC Davis campus.

Here are five insights:

1. The new center will include a sports medicine center, training facilities and multiple sports program offices.

2. The project comprises a new 38,000-square-foot building, renovation of 16,000 square feet in the Bob Foster Team Center and a new practice field.

3. In addition to the student athletes, the sports medicine practice and other health services will be available to UC Davis students as well as active adults in the Davis area, CEO of UC Davis Health and Vice Chancellor of UC Davis Human Health Sciences David Lubarsky, MD, said.

4. An estimated 90 percent of the approximately $40 million required for the construction project has been secured. Groundbreaking of the practice field is scheduled for early 2019. The performance center buildings will begin construction after fundraising is completed.

5. In December 2017, UC Davis Health medical residents began participating in the first electives for college sports medicine, which have since evolved into a full-time sports medicine fellowship.
