Here’s what you should know:
1. In an Instagram post, Ms. Wie wrote she was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture, bone spurring and nerve entrapment in her right hand.
2. The 2018 HSBC Women’s World Champion said she underwent three cortisone injections and tried resting her hand after withdrawing from the Ricoh Women’s British Open in early August.
3. Dr. Weiland performed Ms. Wie’s surgery Oct. 18. She will be out for the remainder of the 2018 season recovering.
4. Dr. Weiland is an orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. His specialties include upper extremity joint replacement, wrist fractures, arthritis of the hand and free vascularized bone grafts.
5. Previously, Dr. Weiland served as president of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Orthopaedic Association and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
