Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Marcella Madera of Austin Brain & Spine

Marcella Madera, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon at Austin (Texas) Brain & Spine.

Dr. Madera is an assistant surgery professor at University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. She also serves as the neurosurgery representative to the surgery and perioperative care department and sponsors the medical student surgery interest group at the medical school. She is experienced in open and minimally invasive spine surgery, including navigated microscopic MIS.

She received her medical degree from Oklahoma City-based University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed an AOSpine Fellowship and faculty instructorship at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Dr. Madera has authored numerous articles and textbook chapters. She is a member of the North American Spine Society, AOSpine and American Association of Neurological Surgeons, among other professional organizations.
