U.S. Olympic Committee: Wait 6 Days Before Returning to Competition After a Concussion

The U.S. Olympic Committee is endorsing standards set forth by an international committee that Olympic athletes who suffer from concussions to wait four days before resuming practice and six days before resuming competition, according to an article published in The Gazette.

The International Olympic Committee is recommending the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool for athletes over the age of 10 to assess whether the athletes have recovered enough to return to play. The tool grades athletes on physical side effects, verbal responses, motor response and a balance test.
