Texas Spine & Joint Hospital involved in proposed Memorial Hermann, Baylor Scott & White merger: 5 things to know

Tyler-based Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital locations are part of a proposed megamerger with two of the state’s largest health systems, according to Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Here are five things to know:

1. Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System and Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health signed a letter of intent to merge into a sole system. If approved, it would create the largest health system in Texas.

2. Baylor Scott & White Health partnered with Texas Spine & Joint Hospital in August 2017. Per the agreement, Baylor Scott & White Health took a controlling stake in the spine hospital. However, Texas Spine & Joint Hospital continues to be partially physician-owned.

3. Both health systems hope to be completely merged by July 1, 2019.

4. No facilities would close or change names due to the merger. Baylor Scott & White Health and Memorial Hermann Health System plan to create a new name for the parent entity.

• Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital Radiology Services at Turtle Creek in Tyler
• Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital Orthopedic Clinic & Imaging Services Longview
