Researchers conducted a multicenter ambispective cohort analysis of four tertiary spine care referral centers, encompassing data from 147 patients. The patients were either categorized as Enneking Appropriate or Enneking Innapropriate. An average of four years after surgical intervention, 71 patients suffered at least one local recurrence, with 57 of those patients in the EI group.

There were 48 total deaths reported, with 29 in the EI group and 19 in the EA group. Researchers found a strong correlation between the first local recurrence and mortality. The EI surgical approach showed a higher risk of mortality when compared with the EA group.
