Oklahoma sports medicine facility honors orthopedic surgeon: 4 details

Skiatook (Okla.) High School named its new sports medicine facility after team physician and orthopedic surgeon Jay Lorton, MD, according to Skiatook Journal.

Here are four things to know:

1. Dr. Lorton specializes in sports medicine.

2. A graduate and former athlete at Skiatook High School, Dr. Lorton became the team’s physician in 2001. He is also a team physician at University of Tulsa (Okla.) and Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.

3. After earning his medical degree from and completing residences at Oklahoma City-based University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Dr. Lorton underwent fellowship training in sports medicine at American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala.

4. Dr. Lorton is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society and Oklahoma State Medical Association.
