Dr. James Andrews examines Giants’ pitcher Johnny Cueto’s elbow, recommends up to 8 weeks of rest

James Andrews, MD, examined the strained right elbow of San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto, recommending the pitcher rest for six to eight weeks, ESPN reports.

1. Mr. Cueto went on the 10-day disabled list after experiencing elbow pain May 3.

2. Dr. Andrews examined his arm May 7, but found nothing requiring surgical repair. He recommended Mr. Cueto rest for six to eight weeks.

3. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatment.

4. Dr. Andrews is the Tampa Bay Rays’ orthopedic medical director.
