HHS appoints Dr. John Prunskis to pain management taskforce: 7 things to know

Interventional pain physician John Prunskis, MD, was appointed to the HHS pain management taskforce.

Here are seven things to know.

 

1. Dr. Prunskis is the founder and co-medical director of Elgin-based Illinois Pain Institute. He is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management.

 

2. U.S. Secretary of HHS Alex Azar, JD, invited Dr. Prunskis to serve as a member of the Pain Management Best Practices Inter-Agency Task Force.

 

3. Dr. Prunskis’ task force term extends from when he is sworn in as a special government employee to July 22, 2019, subject to prescribed appointment procedures and periodic review of the task force’s functions.

 

4. Dr. Prunskis won the Castle Connolly Top Pain Doctor Award eight times and was honored as a 2014 U.S. News and World Report Top Physician.

 

5. He received medical degree from Rush University Medical College in Chicago and underwent fellowship training at the University of Chicago. He serves as an examiner for the interventional pain certification examination and is a clinical professor at Chicago Medical School.

 

6. Dr. Prunskis is a frequent lecturer and past secretary of the Illinois Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He is an active member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Pain Society and the International Spinal Injection Society, among other professional organizations.

 

7. He was elected to his third term representing Lithuanian-Americans in Lithuanian Parliament. He enjoys reading, snow skiing and other exercise.
