Dr. Koco Eaton confirms Rays’ prospect Brent Honeywell tore UCL — 4 things to know

Tampa Bay Rays top prospect Brent Honeywell tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm Feb. 22, team physician Koco Eaton, MD, confirmed, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Here’s what you should know:

 

1. Mr. Honeywell was throwing a bullpen session when the injury occurred. He left camp with a trainer. He was taken to Dr. Eaton who confirmed the UCL tear.

 

2. Dr. Eaton recommended Tommy John surgery, but Mr. Honeywell will get a second opinion. The team doesn’t expect the prognosis to change.

 

3. Dr. Eaton has been the Rays’ team physician since 1996.

 

4. He is the founder of Eaton Orthopedics in Tampa Bay, Fla.
