Dr. Andrew Dossett performs spine surgeon on Michael Porter Jr. – out for rest of season

Amid speculation of when Columbia-based University of Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr. would return, the fresman opted to undergo spine surgery performed by Andrew Dossett, MD, missing the rest of the season, according to St. Louis Post-Disptach.

Here’s what you need to know.

 

1. Dr. Dossett performed an L3-L4 spinal microdiscectomy and expects Mr. Porter’s recovery time to be around three to four months.

 

2. Mr. Porter has been suffering from back pain since April 2017. He was working with team physicians, but no specific diagnosis was made by the team’s medical staff.

 

3. Mr. Porter sought out a second opinion from a physician outside of Mizzou’s medical staff after team physicians did not recommend surgery and planed a more conservative treatment plan.

 

4. Dr. Dossett, of The Carrell Clinic in Dallas, is a sine consultant for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars.
