Knee surgery rate rises 59% in girls: 4 key statistics

In a study reported by Reuters, researchers studied the number of people receiving anterior cruciate ligament tear surgery from 2002 to 2014.

Here are four key statistics:

 

1. The average annual surgery rate climbed 22 percent when 75 out of every 100,000 people needed ACL surgery.

 

2. In girls, the ACL surgery rate rose 59 percent with 269 procedures for every 100,000 people.

 

3. In boys, the annual knee surgery rate climbed 44 percent to end at 212 procedures for every 100,000 people.

 

4. By the end of the study, 87 men and 61 women out of every 100,000 people had ACL surgery each year.
