Here are four insights:

1. Nonunion fractures occur in approximately 5 percent of patient fractures every year.

2. While revision surgery can be done to correct the nonunion fracture, such surgeries typically pose technical challenges and increases in potential complications.

3. LIPUS from Bioventus, which is an alternative to surgery for nonunion fractures, has demonstrated a positive healing effect more than 80 percent of the time.

4. Bioventus Manager of Medical Affairs R. Grant Steen, PhD, said, “The heal rate across all primary studies included was 82 percent and increased to 84 percent for nonunions that were eight months or older.”
