Dr. Steven Garfin Performs Three Revision Spine Surgeries to Correct Patient’s Degeneration

Steven Garfin, MD, a spine surgeon and chairman of the orthopedic surgery department at University of California San Diego, recently performed a new revision spine surgery on a patient with a rod crack from the first surgery, according to a KY3 report.

The patient reported having bone-on-bone scoliosis, which worsened over time and softened her bones. Some bone in the spine was breaking and the metal from the first surgery was giving way. Dr. Garfin performed a combination of three major operations to remove the previous hardware, realign and stabilize the spine.
