Dr. James Andrews named NFL Physician of the Year — 5 details

James Andrews, MD, of Birmingham, Ala.-based Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center was recently awarded the Outstanding NFL Team Physician of the Year Jerry “Hawk” Rhea Award.

1. Dr. Andrews was given the award at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

 

2. Dr. Andrews’ training work with the NFL’s Washington team this season earned him esteemed recognition.

 

3. The award is presented to the NFL team physician who has made the greatest contributions to the NFL as well as the athletic training profession.

 

4. The Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society has presented the award at the Combine since 1998.

 

5. The award is named after Jerry Rhea, who served as the Atlanta Falcons’ head athletic trainer from 1969 until 1994 and as president of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
