1. HHS’ Office of Civil Rights has issued alerts about the scam emails.
2. When clicking on the email, practices reported opening a non-governmental marketing site for a cybersecurity service.
3. Affected practices did not report any malware attacks as a result of opening the scam email.
4. The OCR warns providers should still be cautious when opening any emails seemingly from the OCR, however.
5. The OCR reported providers should email OSOCRAudit@hhs.gov, if they are uncertain about an email regarding a HIPAA audit.
