AMA’s CEO Dr. James Madara emphasizes strong leadership in changing healthcare landscape: 5 highlights

James L. Madara, MD, the American Medical Association’s executive vice president and CEO, delivered a speech highlighting the society’s dedication to success, at the 2016 AMA Interim Meeting, held in Orlando, Fla., from Nov. 12 to Nov. 15, 2016.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Other organizations have recognized the AMA for its accomplishments, such as public relations firm APCO Worldwide, who named the society first among the 50 most effective professional associations in the nation.

 

2. President Barrack Obama also gave a shout-out to the AMA for its commitment to curbing the opioid epidemic.

 

3. CMS recommended the society’s digital tools, including the Quality Payment Program Payment Model Evaluator.

 

4. Dr. Madara highlighted the AMA’s partnerships, emphasizing the importance of using the power of collaboration. The society has teamed up with the American Heart Association, the CDC and other organizations to enhance health outcomes in prediabetes and hypertension.

 

5. The society has also been working on creating a medical education textbook with a focus on health systems science, as well as working with technology entrepreneurs to create solutions for greater efficiency in clinical practice.
