Dr. Angus McBryde Jr. passes away after car accident: 4 things to know

Angus McBryde Jr., MD, was killed in a single-vehicle car accident last Tuesday, according to AL.com. Dr. McBryde was 79 years old.

Here’s what you need to know:

 

1. Dr. McBryde was pronounced dead at the scene after an accident early Tuesday morning, in which his car left the road and hit several trees. The accident is still under investigation.

 

2. Dr. McBryde was interim chair of the University of South Alabama’s department of orthopedic surgery, located in Mobile. He has held this position since June 2015.

 

3. Prior to rejoining the university — he also led the department of orthopedic surgery from 1991 to 1996 — Dr. McBryde was a professor at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

 

4. Dr. McBryde had practiced at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Ala., and had served as the director of the American Sports Medicine Institute’s ankle and foot fellowship, also in Birmingham.
