Dr. Kirkpatrick often works with workers’ compensation patients and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Through the charitable foundation, Dr. Kirpatrick invests in her local community. The foundation has helped build at least seven playgrounds in the community with special play structures for children with disabilities.
“There’s nothing quite so fulfilling as seeing the children swing, slide and play on these amazing structures,” said Dr. Kirkpatrick in an MD News report. “At Resurgens, we work with enough kids to realize that play is essential therapy to help young people grow stronger and healthier. Every child needs outdoor physical play. But some children who need it most, kids with disabilities, miss out because they simply don’t have suitable facilities.”
During her career, Dr. Kirkpatrick also founded PowerUp!, an initiative aimed at combating childhood obesity. She earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville (Ky.), where she also completed her residency. Her additional training includes a fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute of Hand & Microsurgery in Louisville, Ky.
