Washington Redskins names Dr. Robin West sports medicine director — 5 highlights

The Washington Redskins selected Robin V. West, MD, as the team’s new sports medicine director, according to ESPN.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Dr. West is only one of two female head orthopedic surgeons in the NFL.

 

2. She currently serves as team physician for the Washington Nationals baseball team.

 

3. Previously, Dr. West served as assistant orthopedic team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers for 11 years.

 

4. Dr. West is the medical director of Inova Sports Medicine in Fairfax, Va.

 

5. Dr. West earned her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., where she also completed her residency. She underwent a sports medicine fellowship at the Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
