Scott Gillogly, MD, team orthopedist, was at the game and treated Mr. Pavelec with other members of the medical team. That morning, the medical staff had conducted NHL-mandated mock drills in preparation for such an event. The staff practiced putting injured players on a spine bard and stretcher.
Mr. Pavelec was treated by the medical staff, who had a difficult time removing his goalie mask. Other equipment, such as his chest protector, made it difficult to secure his head properly. He has received treatment and missed nine games with his concussion.
