UCSF Benioff Children’s Oakland established new endowed clinical neurosurgery chair: 5 notes

John Chen, BlackBerry’s CEO, and his wife Sherry Chen, established the John S. and Sherry H. Chen Endowed Chair in Clinical Neurosurgery at University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Oakland.

1. The chair will serve to honor excellence in the field of neurosurgery at the hospital and to support neurosurgeon recruitment.

 

2. Neurosurgeon Peter Sun, MD, is the first recipient of the John S. and Sherry H. Chen Endowed Chair in Clinical Neurosurgery.

 

3. Dr. Sun is the medical director of the division of neurosurgery at UCSF Benioff Oakland.

 

4. UCSF Benioff Oakland is the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in the Bay Area, and one of five in the state.

 

5. Surgeons at the hospital perform up to 450 neurosurgeries each year.
