Dr. Lawrence Shuer shares his passion for neurosurgery: 3 highlights

Neurosurgeon Lawrence Shuer, MD, of Stanford Medicine in Palo Alto, Calif., shared his path into neurosurgery, according to Scope.

Here are three highlights:

 

1. Dr. Shuer’s father inspired him to become a neurosurgeon. He wanted to “see the satisfaction that he [his father] got out of his career.”

 

2. As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Shuer especially enjoys mentoring medical students and residents. He appreciates being “surrounded by their young and enthusiastic and inquisitive minds.”

 

3. He feels it’s a privilege to treat patients, but also to train the future generations of physicians.
