ISASS names award winners at annual meeting in Las Vegas: 5 highlights

The International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery presented awards at its 16th annual meeting in Las Vegas.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Jeffrey Spivak, MD, of New York University, received The ISASS Leon Wiltse Award for Best Overall Paper.

 

His paper was titled, “The Positive Effect of Continued Motion of a Cervical Artificial Disc Replacement on Radiographic Adjacent Level Degeneration at Long Term Follow-Up.”

 

2. Sudarshan Pramod, MBBS, MS, of Chennai, India-based Apollo Hospital, won The Charles D. Ray Award for Best Clinical Paper.

 

His paper was titled, “Long Term Experience with Reduction Technique in High Grade Spondylolisthesis in the Young.”

 

3. Saeed Khayatzadeh, PhD, of Hines, Ill.-based Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, won in the Best Basic Science Paper category.

 

His paper was titled, “Sagittal Balance Considerations In Planning Multilevel Cervical Intervention: Effect of Arthroplasty vs. Fusion on Adjacent Segment Motions.”

 

4. Zhihua Ouyan of Hengyang, China-based First Affiliated Hospital of Nanhua University, won in the Best Poster category.

 

His poster was titled, “Disc Gene Therapy: Development of a Novel Inducible System to Regulate Expression of the Therapeutic Transgene TIMP1.”

 

5. Matthew Scott-Young, MBBS, FRACS, FAOrthA, of Southport, Queensland, Australia-based Gold Coast Spine, received the Kostuik Innovation Award.

 

His paper was titled, “The Incidence of Adjacent Segment Disease and Index Level Revision and Outcomes of Secondary Surgical Intervention Following Single Level Lumbar Total Disc Replacement.”
