1. Dr. Akeyson is a neurosurgeon at Meriden, Conn.-based Midstate Medical Center.

 

2. About 1,000 spine surgeons use Coflex.

 

3. The device is a titanium implant designed to stabilize the spine after decompression surgery.

 

4. It is intended to require a shorter operating time and provide for a faster recovery.
