According to a study of injuries between during the holiday season, an estimated 17,465 persons were treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments for holiday decorating-related falls. Approximately 62 percent of the injuries occurred in people 20-49 years of age, 43 percent of injuries were caused by falls from ladders, and males were 40 percent more likely to be injured than females.
The AAOS recommends reminding patients about ladder safety during the holidays and the appropriate way to lift heavy objects.
