4 points on University of Michigan’s new neurosurgical technology

Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Health System implemented new neurosurgical imaging equipment, according to Healthcare Finance.

1. The Synaptive Medical robotic positioning technology is called BrightMatter.

 

2. University of Michigan will be one of the first hospitals in the nation to use the technology. The health system is integrating BrightMatter into its new operating rooms.

 

3. BrightMatter includes a scope and high-powered lighting. The arm has sensors pinpointing locations within the brain.

 

4. The technology warns surgeons if they are too close to critical structures of the brain during surgery.
