University of California researchers discuss tissue engineering for repairing spinal disc herniation: 5 insights

Grace O’Connell, PhD, of the University of California, Berkeley, J. Kent Leach and Eric Klineberg, both from UC, Davis and UC, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif., published a new paper on tissue engineering for biologically repairing lumbar disc herniation. BioResearch Open Access published the article.

The three researchers explain clinical studies of cell-based tissue engineering approaches with material-based advances. The article also expands on clinical disc herniation and the mechanical properties of intervertebral discs. The authors discuss the scope of tissue engineering approaches for disc tissue repair or replacement.
