Here are four things to know:
1. The session, “A Team Approach to Sports Medicine,” was part of WellSpan’s day-long in-school field trip.
2. WellSpan’s team approach to sports medicine begins with injury prevention and encompasses the treatment of an injury, surgery, rehabilitation and the patient’s return to activity.
3. Various instructors including athletic trainers, a physician extender, an orthopedic surgeon, a physical therapist, a WellFit instructor and a dietician discussed sports medicine and injury prevention with attending students.
4. The sports medicine session was part of the health career day, in which nearly 200 students signed up to participate in a career fair featuring more than 40 different healthcare professions.
