Dr. George Counelis receives honor for neurosurgery, neuro-oncology advances

George J. Counelis, MD, received the Patients’ Choice Award for his commitment to neuro-oncology and neurosurgery, according to Mil-Tech.

He serves as the medical director of the Brain and Tumor Neuro-Oncology Program at John Muir Health in Walnut Creek, Calif., and a clinical instructor in neurological surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Counelis also is the president of Bay Area Neurosciences, also in Walnut Creek.

 

Inducted into the Worldwide Registry, Dr. Counelis is a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, America Association of Neurological Surgeons and American College of Surgeons, among other societies.

 

After receiving his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Dr. Counelis completed a post-doctoral fellowship in cerebral blood flow at UCLA. He completed an internship and neurosurgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He also completed brain tumor research and complex spine surgery fellowships at the same institution.
