Here are four things to know:
1. The technique is being pioneered by Vishal Mehta, MD, a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist.
2. The technique is called ProChondrix Augmentation. It uses ProChondrix, created by Allosource, as a cellular 3D fresh cartilage matrix.
3. According to Dr. Mehta’s team, preliminary test results show patients suffering from damaged knee cartilage can find longer periods of relief with ProChondrix Augmentation.
4. Dr. Mehta is the first physician in the United States to be approved to perform this surgery. He has completed a sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.
