Medtronic on Dow Jones’ sustainability index: 5 key notes

The Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index named Dublin-based Medtronic Plc among the world’s leading companies for sustainability.

Here are five key notes:

 

1. This is the eight consecutive year Medtronic has been ranked on the list. DJSI North America analyzes companies for sustainability based on criteria including economic performance, environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

 

2. Medtronic’s strategy includes targeting global access to healthcare, product quality and patient safety, ethical business practices, employee engagement and development and environmental performance.

 

3. Medtronic has a developing partnership with Apollo Hospitals in India to address end-stage renal disease for patients who need renal replacement therapy. Their goal is to bring an affordable and portable hemodialysis system to the market in the region. Currently, 10 percent of adults are affected by chronic kidney disease.

 

4. Medtronic is expanding the project’s research and development in India as well as a hemodialysis manufacturing plant in China opened last year.

 

5. The FTSE4Good Index recognized Medtronic earlier this year for meeting stringent environmental, social and governance criteria.
