North American Spine Foundation appoints Dr. Janet Maurer to board: 5 things to know

The North American Spine Foundation appointed Janet R. Maurer, MD, MBA, to its board of directors.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Mauerer:

 

1. She is associate chief medical officer and vice president of quality, compliance and appeals for NIA Magellan, part of Magellan Healthcare.

 

2. Dr. Mauerer has previous experience as a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She also directs the school’s Health Care Transformation curricular theme to prepare students for non-clinical aspects of practicing medicine.

 

3. She earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and completed a pulmonary fellowship at the University of California San Diego. She then

 

4. She co-directs the Pulmonary Renal Acid-Base module for first year students.

 

5. She practiced medicine for 20 years and is now certified in Sigma Black Belt focused on administrative medicine and teaching medicine. She also serves on non-profit Boards of Arizona Broadway Theatre and CHEST where she chairs the Joint Financial Oversight.
