“This novel expandable cage addresses many issues with lumbar fusion devices on the market today,” said Kevin S. Cahill, MD, a spine surgeon at Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates. “RISE-L is the most elegant solution for lateral interbody fusion on the market.”

Here are five things to know:

1. The RISE-L is designed to minimize impaction, maximize indirect decompression and provide a large graft space for fusion. It has a large single graft chamber that can be filled with autogenous bone graft material after insertion and expansion.

2. The implant is all titanium and can withstand 7mm of continuous in situ expansion to provide restorative disc height with the proper anatomic fit.

3. The implant is available in multiple sizes and parallel or lordotic profiles for surgeons to address proper sagittal balance.

4. This is the latest in Globus’s line of lateral devices, which began more than six years ago. The products are used in conjunction with Globus Medical’s MARS and MARS 3V retractors.

5. Globus was founded in 2003 and is based in Audubon, Pa.
