Denver’s Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children Opens Youth Sports Medicine Institute

HealthONE’s Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver opened the Youth Sports Medicine Institute, a facility designed to care for student athletes, according to a hospital news release.

Brooke Pengel, MD, is medical director and John Polousky, MD, is surgical director of the new facility, which includes radiology equipment, sports injury and performance research and same-day availability for patient consultation.

The facility focuses on treatment and prevention for injuries such as ACL tears and concussion management through the REAP (Reduce/Educate/Accommodate and Pace) program. The program partners physicians with teachers, coaches and school nurses to identify the side effects of concussions.
