The spine surgery market in the United States is $12 billion, but there are roadblocks for future innovation and payer reimbursement going forward, according to a D1 Payer Insights report. The report notes that there is a lack of price-sustaining innovation from large implant vendors and payer pushback on the efficiency of some spinal procedures is limiting growth.
SeaSpine spin-off effective July 1
Integra LifeSciences’ board of directors approved the separation of SeaSpine Holdings from Integra. The SeaSpine common stock will be distributed on July 1 to Integra stockholders of record as of 5 pm EST on June 19.
Study examines treatment for gunshot injuries of the spine
The researchers queried recent studies on MEDLINE for case reports of spinal gunshot injuries and how they were managed. The study found that gunshot injuries are now the third most common cause of spinal injury and that the best outcomes are associated with gunshot injuries impacting T12. Caudal typically is associated with better outcomes than cranial to T12.

AMA names Dr. Andrew Gurman president-elect

Job openings in healthcare are at a record high
Job openings in the healthcare and social assistance industries rose in April to 910,000, the highest number in more than 14 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The 910,000 listings compares with 810,000 listings in March 2015.
