Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Wright is attempting to avoid surgery at this point, and will wait to see the extent of his abilities with stenosis before making any major decisions.
2. This is the first time Mr. Wright is meeting with Dr. Watkins, who has treated several other professional athletes in the past. His surgical procedures have returned athletes, including Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, to play.
3. There is an indefinite timetable for Mr. Wright’s return.
4. Dr. Watkins is a founding member of the North American Spine Society and practices alongside his son in Marina Del Rey.
5. Both Dr. Watkins’ are spinal consultants for the USC athletic programs, Los Angeles Dodgers and other professional sports teams in LA. He earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and completed fellowships in spine surgery at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopedic Hospital and Klinik fur Othopadische Chirugie.
