Dr. McHone graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and from the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center Orthopedic Residency. In addition to active duty in the army won numerous army awards including the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.
According to the report, Dr. McHone moved to Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C., where he was an orthopedic surgeon for 25 years until he retired in 2007. Dr. McHone was very active in the community and local high school athletes and was on many boards and committees of the West Point Association of Graduates as well as serving on the homeowners’ board for numerous Columbia communities. In addition, Dr. McHone also was active in school boards and helped several multimillion dollar bond referendums to pass.
