Dr. Mauck received the award for his research that focused on developing and optimizing nanofibrous scaffolds to repair or replace complex connective tissues, including tissues that make up the meniscus of the knee or the intervertebral disc of the spine. Dr. Mauck is an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The award includes a $20,000 stipend.
