While serving in the navy during the Vietnam War, Dr. Lovejoy saw recycling medical equipment could save improve healthcare in developing countries. After joining his father in a private practice, Dr. Lovejoy continued to travel to Greneda to upgrade medical equipment, build an arthroscopic system and begin an exchange program bringing Grenedian orthopedists to the United States for training.
Dr. Lovejoy has been travelling to Haiti, including after 2010’s devastating earthquake, to provide mentoring, training, surgery and support.
“As my children grew up, I involved them and they, too, appreciated all they had when they saw how some struggled for existence,” Dr. Lovejoy said.
