The patient, an elderly woman suffering from a fracture of her proximal humerus, was enrolled in a hospital in the Netherlands. The trial at the hospital is being led by Paul Vegt, MD, PhD, and will test the safety and efficacy of the IlluminOss System, a bone stabilization technology. The system allows for fracture fixation through patient-specific intramedullary implants.
“She was able to return home one day post-surgery with only a small sling and reported being nearly pain-free,” said Dr. Vegt.
