Dr. Sanjay Gupta wins Alfred I. duPont Award for medical marijuana reporting — 5 things to know

Neurosurgeon and chief medical correspondent for CNN Sanjay Gupta, MD, received the Alfred I. duPont Award for his coverage of medical marijuana, according to a Newswise report.

Dr. Gupta will be featured on the April issue of Neurosurgery for his work on medical marijuana. His documentary, titled WEED: Dr. Sanjay Gupta was named one of 14 Alfred I. DuPont award winners. Here are five things to know:

 

1. The documentary focuses on medical marijuana and the impact on patients and families.

 

2. Dr. Gupta and his team spent two years making the documentary.

 

3. A second documentary covers the continuing political debate over medical marijuana.

 

4. The essay featured in Neurosurgery focuses on medical marijuana for patients with certain treatment-resistant epilepsy.

 

5. While doing his reporting, Dr. Gupta also maintains a medical and neurosurgical practice and is a member of the faculty and staff at Emory University.
