UNM Health Sciences Center hosts program that encourages young women to consider career in orthopedics

UNM Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque announced that The Perry Initiative held a one-day program at the center to encourage young women to pursue careers in orthopedic surgery and engineering.

Forty girls from 23 New Mexico high schools were selected to take part in the program. They performed a number of surgical simulations to correct scoliosis deformity, fix a broken wrist and repair a broken leg. Orthopedic physicians from UNM Health Sciences Center helped lead the program.

 

The Perry Initiative is a nonprofit that aims to inspire young women to be leaders in the fields of orthopedic surgery and engineering.
